Best Papaya Rankings, Benefits, Side Effects & Experience
Papaya was noted as the “fruit of Angels” by Christopher Colon/Columbus who landed on the very island I write this from, Island Colon, of the Bocas del Toro province of what is today the Republic of Panama.
Papayas are native to the tropical Americas.
Carica papaya, one of the 22 accepted species in the genus Carica of the family Caricaceae.
Previous generations saw them as exotic plants, and as such were consigned to fringe markets such as dehydrated forms in a trail mix. Now they are found regularly in mainstream food inventories across the globe.
Botanist Lucas T.P. called his 914 work on the species “The Most Wonderful Tree in the World.” [AR3]
Papayas contain papain, an enzyme that helps digest and absorb proteins either in the stomach or directly on meat, for tenderizing.
This behavior is like that of avocado, where the enzyme helps the breakdown of other foods. That is a key function for an aggressive athletic Nutritional Diversity plan.
The following discusses a number of papaya’s beneficial facets.
Papaya Nutrition (Fruit)
Papayas are nutritious, and in the opinion of this author, delicious. As a crop, I have found they require a fairly intensive effort to deliver an excellent, unbothered yield.
They have been grown here for centuries and their use by ancient cultures is well known. The indigenous tribes in Colombia and Peru cultivate papaya today on primitive farms which can only be seen from the air.
I also choose them because of their digestive enzyme support. With more digestive enzymes, more nutrition can actually be used by the system, and in combination with an optimal level of exercise can deliver performance-enhancing results.
The green un-ripe state is nutritious, but consumption is limited to the indigenous peoples whose digestion has evolved over time to process it. The ripe state of the papaya is orange, which is brought to richness under the intense tropical sun.
Folate
Folate is an important B-complex vitamin element, long known to have a vital role in human health and aging effects. Insufficient amounts of folate are linked to higher incidences of certain cancers in the body.
A medium-sized papaya’s folate content is around 25% of the daily recommended amount. Lentils, and spinach, and kidney, pinto, and black beans are other common foods that contain high amounts of folate.
High Vitamin C & Digestive Enzymes
Eat papaya with your Nutritional Diversity. or a good selection of similar broad-spectrum foods (see above table), because papaya is an aide in vitamin and protein absorption.
Regular consumption is linked to increased resistance to the common cold, colon cancer, and liver disease, and in the tropics resistance to parasites and mosquito-borne illnesses such as dengue fever.
Papaya Medicine
Cancer testing has been emphasized by the Japanese medical community. Colon cancer cases were treated in this population with papaya. A study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health’s Department concluded that the levels of beta carotene in papayas reduced the incidences of prostate and colon cancers.
American studies on eye care showed that papaya helped to prevent damage to the eye, and supported good eyesight with its carotene content. The antioxidant zeaxanthin, found in papaya, filters out harmful blue light rays and is thought to play a protective role in eye health and possibly ward off damage from macular degeneration.
Papaya is an immunity and stress medicine. Medium-sized papaya has over 230% of the recommended daily adult dose of vitamin C. The natural sugars also make it a blood builder, and a good after-gym or workday snack.
Just like the noni, the papaya leaf had a wound healing help substance and can be used as a good field suture. Check well for parasites and clean the cut-facing surface well. [AR2]

PAPAYA BENEFITS
Papaya plants offer evidence that it may treat dengue infections and if so this would be a highly valued treatment.
Carica leaves have been used for traditional treatment of dengue fever and have been reported to exhibit an immunomodulatory activity by affecting the level of cytokine production in vitro and in vivo. [1]
The leaf juice from the Angelic plant has also proved powerful in the liver for dengue infected animals in testing. [2,a,b]
Leaf juice could be a good pharmaceutical source of natural nephroprotective medicines. [3]
Animal tests indicate antidiabetic activity in the compounds derived from the angel of plants leaf juice. Results suggest that the aqueous extract of C. papaya may improve the metabolic disruption produced by diabetes. [4,a]
Seeds considered for tropical deworming programs in Africa. [5]
In traditional medicine, Carica papaya leaf has been used for a wide range of therapeutic applications including skin diseases and cancer. [6]
The present study established that the mature leaf concentrate (MLCC) of Carica papaya Sri Lankan wild type cultivar is orally active, safe and effectively modulates nonfunctional and functional immunological parameters of several diseases that unequivocally corroborate the traditional medical claims.
The Angelic plant is a powerful herbal therapeutic agent for modulating the immune system in numerous diseases. [7]
Exhibits curative properties, such as improvements in hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity induced by drugs, antimicrobial, antimalarial, anti-parasitic, antitumor, anti-inflammatory actions and wound healing effects. [8]
Like basil, the angel leaf could be a powerful employ in lowering overall overweigh rates and will be important for the development of novel natural products on the treatment and prevention of obesity and metabolic disturbances [9]
During intermediate phases of papaya ripening, partial depolymerization of pectin to small size with decreased branching had enhanced pectin anti-cancer properties. I other words at the middle stage ripeness, the Angel fruit has a cancer-curing range of production. [10]
Leaf extracts help with gingivitis and related bleeding and are effective agents in natural toothpaste. [11]
PAPAYA SIDE EFFECTS
Safe food, eaten forever.
As with all new foods go slow to asses tolerance and possible allergic response.
PAPAYA EXPERIENCE
See “Papaya Seeds” below for more medicinal use information.
Topical Application
Papaya is an excellent topical applier, that tightens skin and reduces signs of aging in the skin.
Papaya would go great mixed with avocado, and jackfruit, with some mango also, and these are some of the ingredients I am working with on my new product for the boxing/fighting community, called Fight Face, or War Paint – you can tell me in the comments what you like better….
As a medicine topically papaya, is like avocado and coconut in that when applied to dry skin or a burn it has immediately visible positive effects.
Papaya Seeds
Blend up some of this strong peppercorn- mustard tasting guys in smoothies, to rid yourself of parasites and their eggs. This also works for Joey’s goats according to this goat video.
The seeds from papaya contain a unique antithetical alkaloid called a campaign that has been shown to be very effective at killing parasitic worms and amoebas.
My sidekick down here (now past) Edwin, an indigenous kid about 14 years old, knows about this and anytime he sees papaya seeds he will start chewing them up. Nobody wants parasites.
Every day for month papaya seeds can have tremendous positive effects on liver cirrhosis, so if you have had your share of alcohol in life, this would be good to do. Again, blended, chewed a lot, dried and ground or mortar and pestled is said to be the best way to do it.
A small volume of papaya seeds has been found to kill harmful bacteria like E. coli, staph, and salmonella. These seeds also help fight viral infections and cures dengue, typhoid, and numerous other diseases. In Nigeria, papaya seeds with milk is an excellent cure for typhoid fever.
The ancients may know this is a truly ‘angelic’ plant able to make its consumers invincible to the viruses, pathogens and preying parasites of the circle of life, very present in the jungle. Of course, this is only a researched speculation, I have no idea what the true ancient knowledge’s concerning papaya are, but I would truly love to find out.
Papaya Leaves
A new growing trend is papaya leaf juice. Indigenous peoples recognize the leaves for their strong anti-malarial and the almost symptomatically equal; anti-dengue fever properties.
Papain and other papaya elements are believed to aid in hair growth, baldness prevention, skin health and hair cleanliness, a big ingredient for many shampoos.
Another compound found in papaya leaf is acetogenin, which can help prevent dangerous diseases like malaria and dengue also. Papaya leaf is fast gaining importance in a world of nutrition for packing incredible health and skin benefits.
Like the fruit, the leaf is rich in enzymes like papain and chymopapain, which aid digestion, prevents bloating and other digestive disorders. Apart from digestion, the strong alkaloid compounds like papain work effectively against fighting dandruff and balding.
Papaya leaves also contain high amounts of vitamins A, C, E, K, and B and minerals like calcium, magnesium, sodium magnesium and iron.
Papaya
Permaculture
Papayas are still grown by the un-contacted tribes of the Amazon and Peru, easily recognized by airplane photography.
They are very much in need of cultivation, I myself have seen them easily overgrown, or heavily stunted never to produce, by other plants.
They do however contain, hundreds of seeds, and are great bee attractors.
Insect & Parasite Protection
They are susceptible to certain insect problems, and tree topping and branching can be employed, or a good ladder may be wanted, as to bag with plastic bags (I use standard grocery store bags), the fruits at the stems while they grow.
This is the best organic method I have found so far. A patchouli spray I am told also may be of some help but have yet to try this.
Permaculture Associations on the Farm
Most folks keep the trees reachable. Most still do monoculture with them. One day, one day.
They seem to get along quite well with plantains and bananas both in the fruit bowl and in the garden – which is exactly how most of my terrace canopies are constructed. I shrub around basil, cassava, and ambrosia peruvianna, katuk, and the young tree’s as my mix on terraces presently.
I give the males lots of time to grow, they likely turn into hermaphrodites, and fruit more than the females. If not I will make a clean cut to the larger at this point, grown stump and simply graft a female or hermi, into it where it stood, just after harvesting.
We do have a huge one that survived up to at the top of the hill and now is canopy there.
My favorite teacher grows them into full trees that feature cool thorns.
The leaf stem is a natural pipe or straw.
PAPAYA FAQ
Q. What’s the best way to keep the bugs off the fruits?
A. I myself plastic bag them. Now the grocery has you buy 25 cent biodegradable, reusable bags.
They work just as good in the rain sun, rain sun of Bocas del Toro.
Q. How do you (author) use the plant regularly?
A. I myself do smoothies with the leaves – they are bitter so I mix with passion fruit or something strong. If I grow the fruit or a friend does, I eat it.
I do use the seeds in another smoothie most people think is “nuts” full of the best hot peppers and the best basil.

Nutritional Diversity Supplements, A New Age of Nutrition is Here
A New Age of Nutrition Is Here
Most nutritionists don’t know how nutrition is actually cultivated in nature.
They don’t understand ecosystems — they understand isolated compounds.
They don’t build vitality — they prescribe boxes.
Much like modern agriculture, today’s nutrition field is dominated by shortcuts and chemicals. Synthetic vitamins, mass-produced crops, sterile soils, and monoculture mindsets. These systems cheat nature — and nature always pushes back.
The consequences?
Wrecked soil. Broken guts. Fragile immune systems. A sick planet and a sick population.
Not just humans — but animals, microbes, insects, and even fungi are caught in the backlash.

Imagine If 20% of the Population Took Action Today: A Vision for Nutritional Diversity and Land Restoration
A Future Shaped by Small Alternative Agricultures
Imagine if, starting today, one in five people took up the challenge of cultivating small-scale alternative agriculture—permaculture food forests, regenerative farms, nutrient-dense wild plots, and biodiverse gardens—all designed to support the Nutritional Diversity Diet.
Where would we be in five, ten, or twenty years?
Five Years: The Awakening of the Land
- Millions of small plots, backyards, and vacant lands transformed into living, breathing ecosystems.
- Urban and rural landscapes are interwoven with perennial food systems, soil-building crops, and high-density nutrition.
- Local communities regaining food sovereignty, free from chemical-dependent supply chains.
- A new generation of eco-entrepreneurs emerges, pioneering micro-farms that thrive on biodiversity, not monoculture.
Ten Years: The Turning Point
- Soil once depleted by industrial agriculture now teeming with life, enriched by microbial diversity.
- A shift in global nutrition: Gut health improves, disease rates drop, and food security becomes decentralized.
- Rivers and oceans heal as synthetic fertilizers and agricultural runoff disappear.
- AI-driven ecological monitoring and drone-assisted reforestation bring back lost biodiversity.
- Carbon sequestration skyrockets as trees, fungi, and regenerative landscapes capture atmospheric carbon at scale.
Twenty Years: A Thriving Regenerative Civilization
- Industrial farming is replaced by hyper-diverse, closed-loop food systems.
- A self-sustaining, nutritionally complete ecosystem supports human health and planetary stability.
- No longer a “niche practice,” biodiverse agriculture becomes the foundation of global food production.
- The climate stabilizes, deserts are reclaimed, and the world breathes in balance with nature.
- Humanity lives longer, stronger, and more harmoniously, nourished by food systems that heal instead of harm.
Call to Action: The Time Is Now
This is not a distant dream—it is a blueprint for action. With the right support, incentives, and knowledge-sharing networks, we can make this vision a reality.
We propose the Nutritional Diversity Ecological Enhancement Initiative, a scalable, measurable, and globally replicable system to:
Provide tools, education, and guidance to small-scale land stewards.
Establish financial and technological support for high-diversity micro-farms.
Integrate AI, drone technology, and microbial soil innovations for rapid ecosystem regeneration.
Create global food security by focusing on nutrient density over yield quantity.
Develop decentralized marketplaces, ensuring farmers thrive economically while enhancing ecosystems.
We invite partners, visionaries, and world leaders to be part of this movement—to fund, support, and ignite a regenerative revolution.
The first seeds of change are ready to be planted. Will you be among the first to grow the future?
What Happens When We Take Action?
When 20% of the population actively participates in alternative agriculture and land regeneration, we initiate a chain reaction—one that transforms food systems, ecosystems, human health, and even the global economy.
Phase 1: The Shift Begins (Years 1-5)
- People reclaim land—from vacant lots to degraded soil, rooftops to backyards—turning them into diverse, regenerative food systems.
- Microbial restoration kicks in as synthetic inputs are abandoned in favor of probiotic soil amendments, composting, and mycoremediation.
- Communities reconnect through local food exchanges, cooperative farming models, and educational hubs that teach Nutritional Diversity principles.
- Corporate agriculture feels the shift—as millions of people begin sourcing food from local, nutrient-dense, chemical-free alternatives.
- Consumer health improves as gut microbiomes are restored, chronic disease rates decline, and processed food dependency weakens.
Phase 2: The Turning Point (Years 5-10)
- A new agricultural economy emerges, where small-scale, biodiverse farms outperform industrial monocultures in nutrition, sustainability, and resilience.
- Desertified lands begin to heal, carbon is pulled from the atmosphere, and regenerative land practices stabilize microclimates.
- Big agriculture is forced to adapt—industries pivot to regenerative practices or face extinction as decentralized food systems thrive.
- Nutritional intelligence spreads, with functional medicine and whole-food-based nutrition becoming the global standard.
- Biodiversity explodes—pollinators, wildlife, and native plants return, forming self-sustaining ecosystems within human environments.
Phase 3: A Regenerative Future (Years 10-20)
- Human health reaches a new peak, with stronger immune systems, fewer metabolic diseases, and a lifespan extended by decades through nutrient-rich diets.
- The climate crisis reverses itself, as forests, soil, and mycorrhizal networks become major carbon sinks, cooling the planet naturally.
- Oceans heal, as agricultural runoff ceases, marine food chains restore, and dead zones shrink.
- New economic powerhouses emerge, built on regenerative production, decentralized supply chains, and abundance-based commerce.
- Governments and corporations embrace the movement, integrating nutritional diversity farming and ecosystem repair into global policy.
The Inevitable Future—If We Act Now
This isn’t speculation—this will happen if enough people take action. The first adopters set the stage, and as results multiply, the movement scales exponentially.
The Nutritional Diversity Ecological Enhancement Initiative is designed to facilitate, accelerate, and scale this transformation.
We have the tools. We have the knowledge. We have the opportunity.
The only question is: How fast do we want this future to arrive?
….. another question could be can we implement through the younger generation and video games!???
