Not mentioning that Panama is a New Republic of less than four million with one of the world’s most prosperous assets, the canal, and has been growing steadily in a wave of industries, lifestyles and foreign retirements. Panama City (and others) is also becoming an events house and second home to many of the worlds out-of-the-box people. The Electronic, metal and blues music scenes are all new ones, and new members drawn by these new growing cultures are making incredible additions to the city so rich with history. Vogue magazine encourages vacations this 2019. pointing out not just its flash and attraction but also that it’s the oldest city in the America’s 500th birthday. Panama also enjoys being polled and named the happiest country (or in the top 3 happiest) on the planet, steadily since 2014, revolving around her neighbor Costa Rica.

Bocas Del Toro Bluff Beach Isla Colon

Bluff Beach, Isla Colon

This rich nation of a culturally non-confrontational, non-violent local population, who primarily enjoy the easy life, is also now flush with security, a well planned move over the last decade, to assure people like the Pope, who chose it for his World Youth Conference, a visit which passed without incident; World tourism is safe to fall in love with Panama exactly the way it has. The historic and modern city walkways and parks are open 24 hours with Presidential Police at every corner and on patrol. The Cinta Costera an eight hundred million dollar installation extending Panama’s Coast, Parque Omar and Via Argentina parks, are some of the most gorgeous stretch of track and park I have ever had the pleasure of frequenting. You have to hand it to Panama for all they do for the kids and the families. Last year the museum of Biodiversity was built into the extravagant Cinta Costera park and waterway, complete with tennis courts, skate park, bio-park exhibits, and an outdoor public gym facility. The one Dollar / one Balboa coin, the only local money produced, and all of that registers left of the decimal, in this country that uses the U.S. Dollar, was printed up early this year for the World Vatican Youth Event, featuring historic churches on the back of each coin – collectors would want to know.

Panama 2019

Panama in 2019 is safe, downside is we are regularly considered a police state by many. Those who are afraid of Latin America, need not be afraid of Panama, especially in tourist rich zones.

The system here however is much more flexible and fair, but it is ridiculously slower, (than in the United States) in my humble opinion. A top priority here is quality in the foreign residency, always a concern in a drug trafficking bridge, that became a bigger focus in 2009 and 2010 after a series of murders involving a foreigner, and again recently with the crisis in Venezuela. Both foot borders of Panama have become famously difficult ones, and the large police force funded by the canal does an almost lockout job with check points everywhere. Panama is no place for any kind of official fugitive, but I can’t be irresponsible enough not to tell you theft, scams and con games are as common here as they are anywhere, and that includes to the foreigners.

The country is well suited for the rich because of it’s well known banking district, and very poor lower class. Most apartments and homes in the city are built with a maid’s apartment inside of them. A live in maid is as little as $300 a month providing one of these mini apartments.

Capitalizing on moments of world spotlight, Panama also announced a new easy to use online tourism visa application system, for countries without a consulate from this small nation, to make tourism easier and keep the income of foreigners steady, attractive and simple. Panama has been subsidizing trips from many locations around the world regularly for the last several years, and continues to see diversity here as a benefit. The 54 million dollar fee to the Vatican was reportedly paid by the over two hundred thousand registrants who brought, who knows how much money into Panama’s economy during the month long event, not to mention the exposure and positive review of the country who has worked so hard to become a place deserving of it.

Church coins issued for the Vatican’s World Youth Day that just passed, Pope Fransisco visit

Off the USS Carl Vinson CVN-70 in 2005, I saw Dubai, and was briefed for liberty there, about how it was the international, certainly Middle Eastern hot spot at that time. Granted I saw it ten years ago, Panama rivals this place in a great number of ways, no short of hot cars on America’s oldest brick street, in front of incredible historic churches, clubs and hotels in Casco Viejo. I tell people back home to make it short this is like Dubai of Latin America. In ten years, it will really be something, there are too many residents even if part time, of the World’s upper class.

Panama has been investing heavily in tourism and so have the ever growing number of expats flooding in. It’s paying off. This place is packed with tourists this high season, which traditionally is December 20th through the end of Semana Santa (Easter) in April, but I think with the new levels of exposure as a tourist destination, and a luxury one at that, there won’t be much of an off season outside of another recession or some catastrophe. No, things look very upwards directed. The past 7 years I have been here, and going from city to city each growing faster than anywhere I have ever been. The predictions have been good, and we are really starting to see that. Carnival just ended and let me say that on the Caribbean Islands here, were packed! The local shows and dances, and masks and costumes were also at an all time high.

The brilliant new 5 star subway metro train (if you ask me) was completed this pas year, and the joining metro bus system makes for a phenomenal 35 cent journey anywhere in the city.  Taxis are about 2$ a trip, I recommend you decide that with the taxista before you get in. The canal expansion was finished, to accommodate the new USS George Bush Class carrier which makes for two way traffic for cargo ships, and allows the canal an even steadier and steeper flow of dollars into the economy and infrastructure. More marvels in engineering are proposed for this miraculous country, lets just hope they take ecological points into serious priority.

Panama 2019 & moving forward

Maybe the sun is shining on us, 2020 the U.S. has a bright new U.S. pres. candidate that if nothing else will revolutionize public thinking. It seems that so does Panama, I mean at the very least, you have to appreciate a campaign advertisement this cool. The U.S. has always had a pretty cool candidate in New Mexico’s Gov. Garry Johnson.

Panama has long been a bridge of diversity, a land that archeologists believe once surfaced, allowed the crossing of the northern and southern hemispheres and their wildlife and plant ecology. Right here is some of the most Biodiverse rain-forest and Jungle left. It is one of the last Jaguar corridors, and certain foreign influence has sought to hurt it and certain has sought to protect it, and thank the lord today the protectors are making their march. Bocas del Toro Islands have outlawed plastic bags at grocery stores, they simply tell you to bring your own bag. The indigenous Kuna tribe have done an excellent job keeping their San Blas islands another archipelago of some of the most beautiful sites in the world,  clean while catering to plenty of tourists. These guys have an incredible story and they are very friendly and wholesome, and sure brighten things up with their colorful dress! There is so many wondrous micro climates, indigenous and Latin cultures, and different worlds all inside of Panama.

These kind of reasons brought the Nutritional Diversity study development to continue to base here.

The mountainous Boquette, Volcon and Cerro Punta are some of the most beautiful hills and cloud rain forest in the world. Panama is a great biodiverse nation that has plenty of microclimates to choose from.

Getting residency in Panama 2019 is not that hard, and Panama is perfect for permaculture and those who may want to retreat from hectic city life or retire. The World Economic Forum nominated Panama the number 1 retirement destination in the world for 2019, calling it a “Paradise for Pensioners.” I respect what is represented by the intelligent decisions in the growing nation making perks as mush as 25% off hotels, restaurant tabs and domestic flights and travel for those receiving a monthly check. The community has hit yet another rapid growth cycle this year, and next you can expect real estate to change hands, businesses to form, and the quality of life to improve even beyond the already kush existence we have here.

Young artistic people from all over the world are coming, in and the artistic culture is sparked, flamed and burning at 1000 degrees. Youth hostels, skate crews, rich kids (including Justin Beiber), backbackers, surfers, college grads, college interns, are coming in waves, and new giant hip-Hotels like the W, are made to cater just to them! The Nitro City extreme sports resort an hour from Panama City is another great example. Fine dining, celebrity visits and even big hope of film production vibrate through the city, among the Ferrari exhaust noise that comes with it. It’s no wonder Panama caught the attention of Vogue.

I don’t mean to write anything that says ” I want to feel good about my decision to move to Panama, and rub it in the face of those back home still in the grind,” but I do want to tell you about some legitimate pluses to the idea of making the jump into something new this year, or at least starting to come down for vacations. Push a few friends.

Panama City area, Boquette and the Bocas del Toro Island Colon, have great stays on Airbnb, and each of these cities have quickly growing retirement communities into the small but wealthy international hub of fun.

The short fun pieces ….  like everything here – I will grow it up, over time! I did not want to let too much more time go by before giving a few close friends and extra little push to come down.

Creating a system to use drones for planting diverse agriculture over cleared land involves several key components and steps. This kind of system could greatly enhance reforestation efforts, agricultural diversity, and land management practices. Here is an outline for such a system.

First, assess the land to determine its suitability for different types of agricultural plants. Use drones equipped with advanced sensors, such as multispectral and hyperspectral imaging, to analyze soil quality, moisture levels, and existing vegetation. Map out the area in detail, identifying zones best suited for various plant species based on the data collected.

Next, choose a diverse array of seeds suited to the land’s conditions based on the assessment data. Select seeds that are most likely to thrive in the identified zones, aiming for a mix that supports biodiversity and meets specific goals, like food production or reforestation. Treat seeds with a protective coating if necessary, to enhance water retention and protect against pests.

For the drone planting system design, develop or adapt drones capable of planting seeds efficiently and accurately. This includes designing drones with the capability to carry and disperse seeds effectively, implementing GPS and GIS technologies for precise navigation, and developing software for flight planning and data management.

Execute the planting strategy using the drone fleet. Operate drones to disperse seeds across targeted zones, adjusting flight patterns as necessary to account for real-time conditions.

Monitor the growth and health of the planted areas and manage them for optimal outcomes. Use drones equipped with imaging technology to regularly survey the planted zones, monitoring growth and identifying issues. Analyze monitoring data to inform management decisions, such as the need for reseeding or pest control interventions.

Continuously improve the system based on data collected throughout the process. Collect and analyze data from all stages, from initial land assessment through ongoing monitoring. Use insights gained to refine seed selections, planting patterns, drone technology, and overall strategy.

Ensure the system supports long-term sustainability and benefits local communities. Engage with local stakeholders, consider the environmental impact of the system, and explore opportunities for community involvement in monitoring and managing planted areas.

This system combines technology with ecological understanding to create a powerful tool for enhancing agricultural diversity and land restoration. It is a scalable solution that can be adapted to various environments and objectives.

Nutrition & Health Culture, Education

Combining a strategic diet of diverse whole foods from regions like the jungles of Panama with hardcore intense fitness significantly amplifies the benefits for the entire system, including hormone production, joint health, life extension, and overall physiological and biological improvements. Here is a detailed look into how these elements interact and contribute to a robust health profile.

Strengthening the Entire System

Nutrition and Muscle Recovery: A diet rich in diverse whole foods provides the essential nutrients required for muscle repair and growth. After intense fitness activities, muscles need proteins, vitamins, and minerals to heal from microtears, part of the strengthening process. Foods high in antioxidants can help reduce oxidative stress caused by intense workouts, supporting faster recovery and reducing inflammation.

Energy Metabolism: Complex carbohydrates from whole foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains provide a steady source of energy, essential for fueling intense workouts. Healthy fats, such as those from avocados and nuts, are vital for long-term energy storage and usage during prolonged periods of exercise.

Hormone Production

Supporting Testosterone and Growth Hormone: Physical activity, especially resistance training and high-intensity interval training (HIIT), has been shown to naturally boost the production of anabolic hormones like testosterone and human growth hormone (HGH). These hormones are crucial for muscle growth, strength, and overall physical performance. Consuming foods rich in zinc, magnesium, and certain fats can support the natural hormone production process.

Cortisol Regulation: Intense physical activity can elevate cortisol levels, a stress hormone that, in high amounts, can lead to muscle breakdown and fat accumulation. A diet rich in vitamin C and omega-3 fatty acids can help modulate cortisol levels, ensuring that its effects remain within healthy limits.

Joint Health

Anti-inflammatory Foods: Incorporating foods with anti-inflammatory properties, such as turmeric, ginger, berries, and omega-3-rich fish, can support joint health by reducing inflammation and pain associated with heavy lifting and rigorous exercise.

Collagen Production: Vitamin C-rich foods, alongside other specific nutrients found in bone broth, citrus fruits, and leafy greens, are essential for collagen production, a key component of cartilage and connective tissue health.

Life Extension

Reducing Disease Risk: A diet high in diverse whole foods combined with regular, intense exercise can significantly lower the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and certain cancers. This healthy lifestyle approach contributes to a longer, healthier life.

Telomere Protection: Exercise has been shown to protect telomeres, the protective caps at the ends of chromosomes. Shortened telomeres are associated with aging and increased disease risk. Nutrients from a whole-food diet, alongside the effects of exercise, can help maintain telomere length.

Psychological Benefits

Mental Health and Cognitive Function: Regular intense exercise and a nutritious diet can improve mental health, reduce the risk of depression, enhance cognitive function, and maintain mental clarity into older age. Both exercise and diet influence neurotransmitter levels, which play a key role in mood and cognitive processes.

Integrating a diet of diverse whole foods with intense fitness routines is not just about building muscle or endurance; it is a holistic approach to improving overall health, extending life, and enhancing quality of life through improved physiological and biological functions. This combination supports the body’s natural processes, from hormone production and joint health to energy metabolism and disease prevention, offering a comprehensive approach to health and wellness.

Agriculture Permaculture Investment or Department

Investing in diverse agricultural systems, particularly through the development of small permaculture farms across Argentina’s varied microclimates, can significantly enhance the availability of exotic and nutritious produce, supporting the holistic health benefits discussed previously. With a budget of ten million dollars, strategic investments can be made to create a network of sustainable farms that not only contribute to food security and nutritional diversity but also promote environmental sustainability and economic viability for local communities. Here’s how such an investment could unfold, considering Argentina’s rich diversity of microclimates, from tropical regions in the north to cold southern areas.

Establishing Diverse Agricultural Systems

1. Permaculture Design: Each farm would implement permaculture principles, designing agricultural ecosystems that mimic the natural environment, to create self-sustaining farms. These systems would prioritize biodiversity, soil health, water conservation, and energy efficiency.

2. Microclimate Utilization: Argentina’s range of microclimates, including temperate, tropical, and subtropical zones, offers unique opportunities to cultivate a wide variety of crops. Investments would be directed towards identifying the most suitable crops for each microclimate and optimizing land use for both yield and sustainability.

Investments in Key Areas

1. Soil Health: Investment in soil regeneration practices is crucial. This includes composting, green manures, and biochar to enhance soil fertility and structure, promoting healthy crop growth.

2. Water Management: Developing efficient water management systems, such as drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting, to ensure sustainable water use in agriculture, especially critical in arid regions of Argentina.

3. Renewable Energy: Utilizing renewable energy sources (solar, wind) to power farm operations, reducing carbon footprints, and increasing sustainability.

4. Education and Training: Funding for education and training programs for local farmers on permaculture design, sustainable farming techniques, and market strategies to ensure the long-term success and scalability of these projects.

5. Seed Banking and Genetic Diversity: Establishing seed banks to preserve genetic diversity, including heirloom and indigenous varieties, ensuring resilience against pests, diseases, and changing climate conditions.

Potential Exotic Produce across Argentina’s Microclimates

– Northern Argentina (Tropical and Subtropical): Ideal for fruits like mangos, avocados, bananas, and citrus varieties. Also suitable for cultivating cacao and coffee, adding valuable crops for both local consumption and export.

– Central Argentina (Temperate): Suitable for a wide range of vegetables and fruits such as tomatoes, peppers, berries, and stone fruits. Grains and legumes, including quinoa and amaranth, could thrive here, alongside vineyards for wine production.

– Southern Argentina (Cooler Temperate to Cold): Can focus on root vegetables, leafy greens, and berries that prefer cooler growing conditions. Apples, pears, and cherries could also be successful, along with hops for craft beer production.

Economic and Environmental Impact

ENGLISH

The current situation in Argentina, under President Javier Milei’s administration, highlights a significant moment of transition and crisis, particularly in the realm of science and research. The government’s decision to maintain the 2023 budget levels, effectively reducing real funding for science due to inflation, coupled with the reduction in scholarships and staff layoffs at CONICET, Argentina’s main science agency, signals a deepening crisis for the country’s scientific community. This move, part of broader austerity measures aimed at addressing economic challenges, has sparked protests and concern both domestically and internationally, including a letter of concern from 68 Nobel laureates.

This context creates a unique opportunity for advocating a pivot towards diverse alternative agricultural practices, such as permaculture, as a strategic response to multiple converging challenges. Here’s why investment in permaculture is not only timely but also critical:

1. Food Security and Sovereignty: With the reported issues of poor produce quality, lack of selection in grocery stores, and general poor health among the populace due to mismanagement and corruption, permaculture offers a sustainable and resilient approach to food production. It emphasizes diversity, resilience, and the regeneration of land, which could help Argentina address food security and nutritional quality issues head-on.

2. Economic and Ecological Resilience: Permaculture systems are designed to mimic natural ecosystems, creating productive landscapes that require fewer inputs and are more resistant to climate variability and extremes. This resilience is crucial for Argentina, given its economic instability and the impacts of climate change. By investing in permaculture, Argentina can develop more resilient agricultural systems that can buffer against economic and environmental shocks.

3. Community Empowerment and Innovation: At a time when traditional scientific research and innovation face funding challenges, permaculture offers a grassroots-led approach to innovation. It empowers communities to take control of their food systems, creating opportunities for local innovation and adaptation that do not require significant government funding. This bottom-up approach can fill the gap left by the scaling back of formal scientific research and development activities.

4. Global Leadership and Solidarity: By embracing permaculture, Argentina can position itself as a leader in sustainable agriculture and ecological stewardship. This shift can foster global solidarity and attract international support and investment from those looking to support sustainable and equitable food systems. It offers a counter-narrative to the austerity-driven, anti-science stance, highlighting Argentina’s commitment to sustainable development and ecological health.

5. Addressing Poverty and Unemployment: With more than 50% of the population living in poverty, Argentina faces a critical need to create sustainable economic opportunities. Permaculture projects can provide diverse employment opportunities in the agricultural sector, from production to education and tourism, offering a pathway out of poverty that is aligned with ecological and social sustainability.

In conclusion, the challenges posed by the current economic and political climate in Argentina, including the undermining of science and technology sectors, create a pressing need for innovative and sustainable alternatives. Permaculture represents a holistic and adaptable solution that can address not only the immediate food security concerns but also broader socio-economic and environmental challenges facing Argentina. It’s a timely investment that can pave the way for a resilient, sustainable, and equitable future.

Utilizing tried and tested methods now a century known and developed on a small scale, in a world where most countries restrict agriculture with over-regulation pretty much to weed the small family farms out.
