Best Mushroom Supplement Rankings, Benefits & Experience

Published

Fact Checked
by Kim Conley

Mushrooms have been a long-time mystery for most, stigmatized by the fear of the few fungi that quickly kill their consumers. This makes the best mushroom supplement the best route for the uneducated (everyone).

A world of unknown potential even now; through what could be the basic fabric of our very existence, comes medicinal power of another level most of us will have to (for now) gain entry through the best mushroom supplement s.

Importing four to ten new mushroom species is one of my first moves with athletic performance clients.

The indigestion benefits and all the various flow channels are just too great to pass up. And that is just the beginning of the benefits.

The bone mineral density, cognitive and heavy joint dexterity benefits are just a whole other outstanding set of features that come with implementing as much fresh to tincture stuff as you can responsible accomplish.

I hope you enjoy this in-depth look at the best mushrooms we have found to empower and give the strength to endure.

This piece follows the recent appearance on our favorite JRE Podcast of the world’s current senior expertise on fungi, Paul Stamens, who also has a new book about the higher-minded social intelligence and role of the mycelial networks that run rampant throughout nature.

Fungi has become a huge focus for us along with bee and other pollination studies, when studying how ecology grows and communicates and works together, to balance the world’s perfect oxygen and carbon dioxide balance among many other areas of importance far above our heads.

Stamens is not the first to figure for mushroom miracles but he is the Godfather of mycology today and the tip of the spear in science.

There are even those who believe it was mushrooms that Moses gave in the bible under the name “mana,” or “bread from the sky.”

Then said the LORD unto Moses: “Behold, I will cause to rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in My law, or not.” – EXODUS 16:4

Nowadays I am left to think that Moses and God, of course, knew the ecology and what to eat when the rest of his people just knew the same slave slop likely not far from the plates we eat today.

Someone with more full knowledge of nature likely could have fed the once enslaved ten times over. I myself do believe in the end, that the Great Spirit has the biggest hand in any of that procedure of knowledge and pollination of species or spread of spores.

This full (er) knowledge of nature is something we should have. This is the knowledge that the ND team learns and studies every day.

Throughout Mr. Stamens many works rest a library of discovery in mushroom science as well as in theory regarding the potential of mushroom use and the potentials for human performance in mycology itself.

CERTAIN MUSHROOMS IN THE SMALLEST AMOUNT CAN KILL YOU. ☠

Turns out fungi regulates and makes changes to our ecology, to our world, that help to keep it alive.

The mycelial networks in the ground actually copy exactly the neuro-networks and nervous system designs and structures in the brain and body.

We recognize structures in science?

“Is any man afraid of change? What can take place without change? What then is more pleasing or more suitable to the universal nature? And canst thou take a bath unless the wood undergoes a change? And canst thou be nourished unless the food undergoes a change? And can anything else that is useful be accomplished without change?” – Marcus Aurelius’s Meditations

Mushrooms are a huge part of our bio-diverse diet study here in Panama, and they could be a great answer in food security, health crisis, and a real boost for permacultures and earth purification.

They are proving now to be our best organic answer for plastic waste.

George Carlin said in his stand-up comedy act entitled saving the planet said.

“The earth doesn’t share our prejudice toward plastic. Plastic came out of the earth. The earth probably sees plastic as just another one of its children. It could be the only reason the earth allowed us to be spawned from it in the first place. It wanted plastic for itself…”

Could be prophetic being we now have discovered, a ray of different mushroom species that actually eat the plastic, one being the common oyster, the one that started this discovery is known as the Pestalotiopsis microspora, found in the Amazon rainforest. [x,x,x,x]

Now it is thought that over 50 species can do this. These are surely some of the most powerful biological growths at our disposal. They certainly possess a saving grace.

The Aspergillus tubingensis, discovered first in Pakistan to eat polyurethane and can break it down in as little as two months. [x,x,x]

They really are a frontier of their own, the next frontier of our study, and hopefully of the world, as much evidence supports fungi and mushrooms to be vital proponents of our desperately needed repair phase, after the issuance of the 12-year crisis warning.

To take the guesswork out of it for you, we have ranked several of the best mushroom supplement products for you to start getting the precious elements into your system and wellbeing.

We hope you have a quick look at getting some fungi for yourself as you dive into the ND pro knowledge base.

MUSHROOM BENEFITS

(Generalized)

The best mushroom supplement or better yet whole and fresh can bring excellent benefits into athletic performance, healing, and permaculture garden. Mushrooms play a huge role in ecology. Fungi may even allow us to communicate better with the plant world, nature and achieve universal vibratory coherence.

Fungi diversity is likely to show to be a powerful aid in health and food security, and it seems even in waste handling and plastic contamination processing also.

Generally, Edible mushrooms such as shiitake may have important salutary effects on health or even in treating disease.

It is estimated that approximately 50% of the annual 5 million metric tons of cultivated edible mushrooms contain functional “nutraceutical” or medicinal properties.

By order of decreasing cultivated tonnage mushrooms have various degrees of immunomodulatory, lipid-lowering, antitumor, and other beneficial or therapeutic health effects without any significant toxicity; lentinus (shiitake), pleurotus (oyster), auricularia (mu-er), flammulina (enokitake), tremella (yin-er), hericium, and grifola (maitake). Data suggests treatments for cancer, acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), and hypercholesterolemia, functional mushrooms may dwell within these and other fungal species. [x]

Mushroom-forming fungi (agaricomycetes) have the greatest morphological diversity and complexity of any group of fungi. These agaricomycetes radiated into most niches and fulfill diverse roles in the ecosystem, including wood decomposers, pathogens or mycorrhizal mutualists.

The increase in mushroom diversity started during the Mesozoic-Cenozoic radiation event a change believed in part brought on by flower plants

Wikapedia Photo. Clitocybe Nebularis

A novel ricin B-like lectin, designated Clitocybe nebularis lectin (CNL), was purified from mushroom C. nebularis. The lectin consists of a single ricin B domain, has a molecular mass of 15.9 kDa and an isoelectric point around 4.3.

Clouded Argaric species exhibit antiproliferative effects specific to human leukemic T cells! This means the lectin has potential therapeutic applications in treating T cell-mediated autoimmune and inflammatory disorders and hematopoiesis, other malignancies, and could be used for targeting the leukemic T cells. [x] Lectins are a big part of diet conversation right now, especially regarding beans and seeds.

The mushroom was described and named as Agaricus nebularis in 1789 by August Johann Georg Karl Batsch. Later the fungi were placed in the genus Clitocybe,  1871 by Paul Kummer as Clitocybe nebularis as it is named still today.

Many mycologists, over some years, placed it among the groups Lepista, and Gymnopus, it was placed back in Clitocybe with the specific epithet, in 1871. There is still so much to learn of this and other fungi like her. But this is an example of one we have known well for a long time.

New Coral Fungi

Ramaria Fr. and Clavaria L. are the two major genera of coral mushrooms within the Gomphaceae and Clavariaceae, families respectively. B

Besides having an important role in forest ecology, some species of these are reported to possess high nutraceutical and bioactive potential.

Hidden diversities of coral mushrooms in Northwestern Himalayas have been discovered whereas studies of late describe the detailed biochemical profiling and antioxidant, and antibacterial activities of twelve coral mushroom species. Most of the fungi in the world, by far, is still unknown.

These 12 were tested to be shown free from toxic heavy metals and extracts of these coral mushrooms showed a broad spectrum of inhibition against human pathogenic bacteria. The extracts can be used as antibacterial constituents against human pathogenic bacterial strains tested presently.[x]

MUSHROOM SIDE EFFECTS

(Generalized)

Certain mushrooms can kill you, make you very ill, and other very harmful effects. Don’t mess around until you know what you are doing. The smallest amount of certain mushrooms and parts of nature can kill you or fry your brain in an instant. ☠

The world of mushrooms is an especially powerful one. Again be very careful.

Anytime incorporating new substances into your regimen go slow to assess tolerance and allergic response.

MUSHROOM EXPERIENCE

We have a lot of experience with mushrooms over the last few years. Mostly with turkey tail, rishi mushrooms.

After years of hoping and planning and praying, we finally have small mycology at the Bocas del Toro, Panama Study ND University, using an oyster mushroom strain from a local school.

I have a friend who encountered the Death Angel ☠ , amanita in the wild here in Panama. You definitely would not want to eat that one.

Honestly, we are selves are just getting into the grow lab on different mushroom species. We have tried to propagate wild strains on our farm, and that has gone well.

It is important to not just review research but do research.

No fear

Sample ID Lab

Here is a quick Mushroom Identification Lab, where I take a look at a random wild mushroom I have found…

It’s tough stuff, and dangerous too. Nature is no joke especially down here. We know these fungal species to be very powerful, both as medical aids, and antibiotics but they can be lethal too. In the world of wild unknown nature, the dangers are interestingly very serious, in many different forms. Some of the first things nature teaches you is attention to detail, using all the senses together, and being very respectful and cautious.

!! Aside from a jaguar tearing you apart or a fertalance viper laying you down for consumption as you tiptoe and squat around looking for a healthy mushroom to study; the mushroom or plant itself can immobilize you, make you incredibly sick, or kill you. !!

You must really know what you are doing, and go very slow with your mushroom identification and study.

☠ Do NOT try this at home, or on your own. Seek the guidance of an expert. Mushrooms and Fungi are powerful, they can fry your brain cause half your body to go numb, or kill you instantly.

The mushroom I study in this article was hard to find in the books I have and online. It faintly resembles the Destroying Angel species of deadly mushroom, amanita bisporigera. But so does the grocery store common baby portabello.

“White Spotted Mushroom with Large Gills Growing on Cut Stump in Central America”

large gilled mushroom in central america

Gills of the mushroom

Clean white stalk or stem, connects into the large, clearly visible and separated, white clean gills on the under-body of this mushroom. The top presents a spotted brown pattern atop the milky white surface that is both trumpeted up and umbrella-shaped.

Large clusters of the mushroom, start to take on a powdery grey matte topping, and the brown leopard spots stand up a bit later in the day.

Other smaller clusters seem to brown a little.

The smell and taste of the mushroom is tasty and comparable to the portabello. I  smelled the material and tasted without swallowing it when I discovered this type. I only allowed the piece in my mouth for five seconds the first time.

I know that the poison or healing side of the fence is decided in the dose. I know that selected for personal food or not, the fungi remain equally valuable to me, for composting, or plant growth assistance, or something, and I know that with time and focus I can figure out what the valuable purposes to me this mushroom can be.

The realm holds quite a dynamic set of possibilities in nature. Possibilities that high intelligence can guide, and design to an extent.

white spotted wild mushroom

two of the white-spotted mushrooms with large gills and one other type that grew close by

The second mushroom type in the photograph is from the family of Coprinoid Mushrooms and is considered not edible.

The white-spotted mushroom now twice has seemed to change my mouth texture feelings a bit, and cause immense frontal, behind the forehead, headache on a small quarter gram of the material on the tongue for five seconds of contact. I would get a lymphatic swelling or something like that in the back of my throat also. I duplicated it several times and assessed that I would not be using my white fluffy neighbor as a personal food. This is not something I recommend anyone else do, I have several medical kits, an observer, and lots of experience.

In the internet database of pictures after hours and hours of searching all I have been able to find as a visual comparison is a California strain, known Chlorophyllum molybdites (G. Mey.) Massee (1898). The first noticeable difference is this strain here has clean….

Contamination

Mushroom growths can become contaminated, this is most likely to happen in the beginning stages of growth.

After several hours of research I have not found a photo of this mushroom type, and at continued inspection have found the grayish tinted cluster to be home to a type of spider. The surrounding mushroom clusters of this type were easily contaminated and many at their final stages of life fell to obvious deformity.

I added about three ounces of the mushroom to a grass and food waste compost pile, I can’t say it really took off or did anything noticeable. I am always looking for fungal species that do like the compost heap because I have a hybrid fungi theory I am testing that could speed up compost time pretty well.

Ragweed (Ambrosia): The Infamous Allergen with a Surprising History

Published

on

Few plants are as disliked — or as misunderstood — as ragweed. To most people it’s simply the reason late summer means itchy eyes and endless sneezing. But ragweed is also a native North American plant with a genuinely surprising past: it was one of the continent’s ancient cultivated seed crops, and its very name is tangled up with wormwood in a way worth untangling.

What ragweed is (and the wormwood mix-up)

Ragweed is the genus Ambrosia — most commonly Ambrosia artemisiifolia (common ragweed) and Ambrosia trifida (giant ragweed) — in the daisy family. Here’s the confusion we see constantly: common ragweed’s folk names actually include “American wormwood” and “bitterweed,” which is why people so often conflate it with true wormwood. They are not the same plant. True wormwood is Artemisia absinthium; ragweed is Ambrosia. Different genus, different chemistry, different story — even if an old common name blurred the line.

The allergy reality

There’s no sugar-coating ragweed’s headline trait: it is one of the most significant pollen allergens in North America. A single plant can release enormous quantities of lightweight pollen that travels for miles on the wind, and its late-summer-into-fall season is the classic cause of seasonal allergic rhinitis — hay fever. People allergic to ragweed may also react to related plants and, through cross-reactivity, to certain foods like melon and banana in some cases.

An allergen first. For millions of people ragweed pollen is a genuine trigger for hay fever and can worsen asthma. This article is educational history and botany — not an invitation to handle, forage, or consume ragweed, especially if you have pollen allergies or asthma. Talk with a clinician about seasonal allergies.

The forgotten history: an ancient seed crop

Here’s the part almost no one knows. Long before it was a villain, giant ragweed (Ambrosia trifida) was part of the “Eastern Agricultural Complex” — a group of plants that Indigenous peoples of eastern North America cultivated thousands of years ago. Archaeological evidence shows ragweed seeds among early cultivated foods, valued as an oily, protein-bearing seed before maize came to dominate. It’s a striking reminder that our labels — “weed,” “crop,” “medicine,” “menace” — say as much about us as about the plant.

Native pioneer plantAn Ambrosia native to North America, quick to colonize disturbed ground.
Major allergenWind-borne pollen; a leading cause of autumn hay fever.
Ancient seed foodGiant ragweed was among the Eastern Agricultural Complex crops.

One plant, four names, and a history that runs from ancient granary to modern nuisance — ragweed is a lesson in how much context decides a plant’s reputation.

From the field — what we’ve seen

Fifteen years of working the land teaches you to read plants the way the old growers did — not as heroes or villains, but as parts of a system. Ragweed is a pioneer: it rushes into bare, disturbed, abused soil, and where you see a lot of it, the ground is often telling you something about how it’s been treated. That ecological literacy — knowing what a plant’s presence means — is field knowledge that rarely makes it into a nutrition table. We document ragweed here for exactly that reason: to know a plant honestly, allergen and ancient food alike, is part of a truly diverse understanding of the living world.

Bromelain Nutritional Information

Published

on

Bromelain: Pineapple’s Powerful Enzyme

Bromelain is a group of enzymes found in the stem and fruit of the pineapple (Ananas comosus). More than a tropical treat, pineapple carries one of nature’s most studied digestive enzymes.

Nutritional & Phytochemical Profile

Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme, meaning it helps break down proteins. It is concentrated in the pineapple core and stem and is often extracted for use on its own, alongside the fruit’s vitamin C and manganese.

Traditional & Modern Uses

Traditionally, pineapple has been eaten to aid digestion after protein-rich meals. Bromelain is now widely used to support digestion, a healthy inflammatory response, and post-exercise recovery as part of a balanced routine.

How to Use & Enjoy

Fresh, ripe pineapple — especially closer to the core — provides natural bromelain; note that cooking deactivates the enzyme, so raw fruit is best. Concentrated bromelain is also available in supplement form.

The Nutritional Diversity Perspective

Bromelain highlights the role of food enzymes in nutrition — an often-overlooked dimension of dietary diversity that whole, raw foods uniquely provide.

Yohimbe Nutritional Information

Published

Yohimbe: The Potent West African Bark

Yohimbe (Pausinystalia johimbe) is an evergreen tree native to Central and West Africa whose bark has a long history of traditional use. It is one of the more potent botanicals and deserves respectful, informed use.

Nutritional & Phytochemical Profile

Yohimbe bark contains the alkaloid yohimbine along with related compounds. Because these alkaloids are pharmacologically active, yohimbe is far more potent than most culinary botanicals, and its content can vary widely between products.

Traditional & Modern Uses

Traditionally, yohimbe bark has been used in West African practice as a stimulant and tonic. Modern use should be cautious: yohimbe can raise heart rate and blood pressure and is not suitable for everyone — particularly those with cardiovascular conditions, high blood pressure, anxiety, or who are pregnant or nursing.

How to Use & Enjoy

Because of its potency and variability, yohimbe should only be used under the guidance of a knowledgeable healthcare provider who can advise on whether it is appropriate and at what dose. It is not a casual daily botanical.

The Nutritional Diversity Perspective

Yohimbe is included here for education and completeness. It is a clear reminder that “natural” does not mean “gentle” — some botanicals are powerful and call for informed, careful respect.
